Love reading Wikipedia’s musical descriptions. For Mastodon, it reads this under genre:

“Hard” would have sufficed. The band’s new album “Emperor of Sand” has been out for a couple of months and those of us around Memphis will get to get to see it live Thursday at Minglewood Hall.

Mastodon seems to fly low on the rock radar (they’d played Kimmel for crying out loud). Despite not being the most radio-friendly rock band on the planet, it has quite a following and quite a new album – heavy from start to finish.
